Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) has named Quinn Do of Oklahoma City as the Dr. Henry Jr. & Viola Kirkland Scholar for the 2025-26 Academic Year.
Do is a Senior majoring in Biological Sciences.
Dr. Henry Kirkland ’69, was a coach and teacher in El Reno Public Schools before he joined the biology department at SWOSU, where he enjoyed a successful career in teaching and research for 25 years. He was known for taking an interest in his students’ career paths and introducing them to the biological sciences. Kirkland was honored as a SWOSU Emeritus faculty member upon retirement and later received the SWOSU Presidential Order of Merit. He was also inducted into the Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma State University Educators Hall of Fame before his death in 2016.
The Dr. Henry Jr. & Viola Kirkland Scholarship is stewarded by the SWOSU Foundation, Inc.
