Seven students have been named as the Madge Lenz Jordan Scholars for the Academic Year at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU).
The recipients of the Madge Lenz Jordan Scholarships are:
Luis Corral is a junior majoring in Criminal Justice from Woodward, Oklahoma.
Madelyn Fulton is a senior majoring in Early Childhood Education from Oklahoma City.
Kimberly Harris is a sophomore majoring in Biological Sciences from Canute, Oklahoma.
Lydia Laverty is a junior, majoring in Biochemistry from Yukon, Oklahoma.
Dawson McClinton is a sophomore majoring in History Education from Elk City, Oklahoma.
Myrical Macias is a senior majoring in Microbiology from Weatherford, Oklahoma.
Amy Morales is a junior majoring in Elementary Education from Guymon, Oklahoma.
The late Madge Lenz Jordan was born in 1904 in Caddo County. Raised on a farm near Hinton, she was educated in a country school until her high school years. She graduated from Hinton High School before spending several years teaching in small country schools throughout the area. Jordan put herself through college at SWOSU, waiting tables in downtown Weatherford and walking back and forth up “the hill” for classes. Jordan married Albert Lenz in 1931. The Lenz family lived on a farm in northern Caddo County while she educated young people at Mound Valley, Hydro, and Weatherford, where the Lenz Family settled in 1946.
The Madge Lenz Jordan Scholarship Fund was established in 2016 by Jordan’s daughter, Marilyn Doty of Auburn (WA), in honor of her mother. Doty is a 1966 SWOSU Chemistry alumna. The Jordan Scholarship benefits SWOSU students studying in the Departments of Education, Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Physics, and Social Sciences.
The Madge Lenz Jordan Memorial Scholarship Fund is stewarded by the SWOSU Foundation, Inc. The Foundation was established in 1977 to promote philanthropy, award scholarships, and distribute funds to support the activities and programs of SWOSU.
