Alumni Spotlights

Paisley Trevino, a 2016 SWOSU nursing graduate, has built a successful career with experience in pediatrics, hospice, and long-term care, where she served as Director of Nursing. In May 2024, she earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Women’s University and now works as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Clinton, Oklahoma. She fondly remembers her time at SWOSU, from late-night study sessions and SWOSU Palooza to serving as President of the Student Nursing Association, crediting the program’s challenges—especially pharmacology—for shaping her career. Alongside her professional achievements, Paisley treasures time with her family and stays connected to SWOSU through alumni events and social media.

Matthew (Matt) Robert McCord, a 2000 SWOSU psychology graduate with a minor in Spanish/Hispanic Culture, now serves as a Major in the Tulsa Police Department. Inspired by 9/11 to become a first responder, he has led units like Homicide and Robbery, co-founded the Special Response Team, and developed cultural competence and DEI training programs. Matt credits SWOSU for giving him a second chance at higher education, shaping his confidence, and sparking his passion for leadership through mentors like Dr. Rodney Scott. Beyond policing, he mentors future leaders, supports nonprofits, and even delivered a TEDx talk on bridging the divide between police and the community.

Jordy and Lauren Acklin, both 2009 SWOSU graduates from Mustang, Oklahoma, have built successful careers while raising their family. Jordy, a Business graduate, is the Owner and President of Acklin Construction, while Lauren, a Health Science graduate, serves as a Physician Assistant at the Jimmy Everest Center and as Vice President of Client Hospitality for the family business. They credit SWOSU for providing the foundation that prepared them for their goals, as well as cherished memories of mentors, friendships, and the place where their love story began. Married nearly 15 years, the Acklins are proud parents of Emersyn and Asa and recently joined the Alumni Association to give back to the university they call a “hidden gem” in Western Oklahoma.
