SWOSU's Acting President, Dr. Janet Cunningham, presents Bruce Magill, '70, and Terry Magill with the Presidential Order of Merit Award on the occasion of the conclusion of Magill's tenure as a Trustee of the SWOSU Foundation, Inc. Joining Cunningham in congratulating Magill were his son, Wes Magill, and Wes's wife, Karen Magill, '02; SWOSU Foundation, Inc. Executive Director Garrett King, '08 & '18; and SWOSU Foundation, Inc. Board Past Chair Philip Busey, Jr., '04.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) has proudly presented Bruce Magill, ’70, with the university’s prestigious Presidential Order of Merit. The award was presented by SWOSU’s Acting President, Dr. Janet Cunningham, during the recent Fall 2025 SWOSU Foundation, Inc. Board of Trustees meeting held in the Timothy T. Day Business Enterprise Center in Weatherford. The meeting marked Magill’s final session as a Trustee.

Magill studied accounting at SWOSU and is the founder of Magill Insurance & Real Estate in Weatherford. He has served in numerous capacities with the Weatherford Area Economic Development Foundation, Weatherford Industrial Trust, and Weatherford Kiwanis Club. He has served as treasurer of the Federated Church for 40 years. In 2007, Magill served as chair of the Independent Insurance Agents of Oklahoma Board of Directors. Magill and his wife, Terry, are parents of three and grandparents of seven.

The Magills are generous Founder-level donors to the SWOSU Bulldog Angels Fund for students in crisis.

“We are honored to name Bruce Magill to the SWOSU Presidential Order of Merit as he concludes his dedicated service to the SWOSU Foundation, Inc. Board of Trustees,” said Cunningham. “Since Bruce’s accession to the Board in late 2016, he has helped steward over $25 million in new charitable gifts to SWOSU. His wisdom as an Investment Committee Trustee has yielded net investment growth of nearly $15 million. He has helped steer support totaling over $22.6 million to SWOSU’s students, faculty, and programs. And he has done all of this while growing the value of the Foundation by 41%, or over $10 million.”

Cunningham concluded, “Truly, we owe Bruce Magill a great debt of gratitude, and we congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition.”

During his time as a Trustee, Magill chaired both the Finance Committee and the Property Committee, and also served a term as Board Secretary.

The SWOSU Presidential Order of Merit is headed by the SWOSU President and stewarded by the SWOSU Foundation, Inc. An independent, institutionally related charitable entity headquartered on the SWOSU Campus in the historic Burton House, the Foundation was established in 1977 to promote philanthropy, award scholarships and distribute funds to support the activities and programs of SWOSU.
